Cow Named Annie?

Anyone know a book about a cow named Annie that has a red cover?

ALA

At least once a day I get excited all over again about ALA Annual 2008. I've never been to California. It doesn't hurt that ALA Annual is one of my favorite things ever. Networking, learning new things, ARCs, meeting old and new friends . . . just such a good time.

From the conference preliminaries it looks like this is shaping up to be a good conference. I'm going to be so busy I'll probably miss joining Dad and his librarian friends for their annual hunt for an excellent Chinese meal.

Library 2.0

The web2.0 challenge at my work place is over. It generated a lot of self learning and excitement to increase our use of web2.0 technologies and collaboration. Riding the wave of enthusiasm I've been creating a youth services wiki for the system.

I'm loving Google Sites, the best free blog service I could get my hands on.

So, my question for you is, how do you get people into the habit of using one new tool instead of three or four older tools?

I knew Mo Willems was involved

in the animated series scheduled for the fall, tentatively called "Sit Down, Shut Up", based on an Australian show. A double take was definitely involved when this picture first appeared on my screen.

Wow!!

Have you seen the new Google Maps function? Thanks to American Libraries Direct, I have. Wikipedia articles and pictures mashed up with Google Maps. This is even cooler than you might think. Just click on "more" in the top right hand corner of the map. (Next to the hybrid, etc. choices.) Wow, I tell you what, wow!

I rescind that 48 hr reading challenge join

Turns out the weekend of the 48 hr reading challenge is the same weekend my parents are coming to town. Since they only visit 2 or 3 times a year I'm not going to also try and fit marathon reading into the weekend. Especially if they think they can fit building the shelves I want in the living room into the time they're here.

I think I will attempt the same the the weekend before. I was looking forward to it.

This Blog and 48 Hr Reading Challenge

My previous post reminded me of something I've been thinking about a lot and have been meaning to post about. Namely, this blog. My posting, as you can see, has become more and more sporadic and less and less meaningful. I'm dissatisfied with myself. The reasons are many. I've become disillusioned with blogging in general. I have less and less time. Not to mention, I'm kind of burnt out on the work front. As summer rolls around I have more time (believe it or not) and more energy. I don't want abandon this blog, but I do have several things to consider.

1. Wordpress is pretty (and has more functionality) - I've considered migrating
2. Posting schedule or lack thereof - I'm tired of experiencing guilt and self-consciousness
3. Purpose and type of content - more on this later

I plan to take part in the 3rd Annual 48 Hour Reading Challenge. Perhaps that will renew my blogging enthusiasm, perhaps it will not. Let's just hope my epicurean club is not scheduled for the same weekend.
