The Friday Five

Ok, so I'm totally copying Sarah Dessen with this idea, but today is my first Friday Five, in which I will post five completely random things about the week.

1. I had the most well-read bunch of second graders visit the library today. Everything I shared (even the new books) was known by at least one kid in the class.

2. Alex Rider is a fun character (I just started the series this week), but I can't quite understand why he lets himself get pulled back into MI6. I did not think I would like these books, but I totally do.

3. The next two kids movies coming out have to do with time travel. Now, I've kind of quit going to the movies. 1)Because they are expensive and 2)I don't like my local theater. And I probably won't see either The Last Mimzy or Meet the Robinsons, but I do love time travel stories. (Have you read King of Shadows by Susan Cooper? Or Outlander by Diana Gabaldon?) I find it very curious how often two movies with similar topics are released near each other. It's like my parents always buying each other the same big gifts. (One year it was a trash disposal.)

4. I've jumped on the bandwagon of people already looking forward to The Return of Jezebel James, an Amy Sherman-Palladino Project that is slated to start airing next tv season. Now, I'm a bit of a TV junkie, and every year I look forward to seeing what will stick around for another season and what new shows will show up, but I've never heard of one this early. Pairing Amy Sherman-Palladino with Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose in a show about a children's book publisher! I'm glad I did hear about this one.

5. I've developed a new bad reading habit. I find myself reading a page, or two or a whole chapter but not really taking it in, because the whole time I'm thinking about mortgage payments or the compliment a second grade teacher gave me or how I'm still frustrated AJ got voted off American Idol or anything other than the book. Frankly, I find it rather disturbing that I can read for so long, my eyes sliding over the words, but my brain doesn't connect. But really, AJ had skills, IMHO.
