No one likes being ignored when someone new comes along. Especially not this adorable dog, Calvin, when Gloria the cat is introduced to his home. Though the text seems uninspired, neither is it horrible, the pictures are delightful. Calvin has a particularly emotive face.
This illustrates the feelings children often have when new people and animals join the family, without painting the unrealistically rosy picture that most picture books do. Umansky acknowledges that change is hard and not everything will be perfect, but just maybe things will be ok. Perhaps, I am reading too much in to this story of new pets.
