Who exactly is Melvin Bubble? And why do we care? And why is it such a fantastic book?

Melvin Bubble is a normal 6 1/2 year-old kid. He has a mom, a dad, a best friend, a tooth fairy, a talking zebra, a magic rock. . . Wait? What?

Melvin's best friend, is such a good friend he thinks there should be a book all about Melvin. This is that book. We see his mom's perspective (Melvin is messy), his dad's (Melvin is just like him), the tooth fairy's (Melvin has a big head), and hear from a number of other colorful characters.

This book is a delight because of the mix of completely normal and utterly absurd. The numerous voices make it a fun read aloud, and the pictures are rich and complex enough to pour over them by yourself. And in the end it is nice to know there are friends who like you enough to want a book written about you.
